Business Development Manager

With the launch of our first UK-authorised fund, we are looking to rapidly scale up our UK distribution.

We are therefore looking for an additional Business Development Manager who will be responsible for developing and managing relationships with both institutional investors and Independent Financial Advisors. This position provides the opportunity to work largely from home, although some travel to our offices in London will be required.

You should have strong existing relationships in the financial community and a proven ability to develop and maintain relationships at the highest level. You will be enthusiastic and willing to become very much a part of a team that is dedicated to providing a superb level of service to our clients. You will have a strong grasp of global finance and investment themes and you will be seen as a cut above by those with whom you deal.

This position will suit someone who is looking for a different kind of challenge. We are a highly entrepreneurial company and your remuneration will be heavily performance based. We believe in allowing key staff to build an ownership stake in the company and therefore equity will be awarded in return for achieving key milestones.

Junior Investment Analyst

LWM’s research team is based in Beijing. LWM promotes an extremely non-hierarchical environment. All analysts have substantial freedom to choose which companies they will investigate. Candidates for inclusion into the portfolio are presented at investment meetings, which include all analysts and which are chaired by the Managing Director.

We are seeking to add an additional analyst to our team. The analyst will be based in Beijing.

Requirements

• All reports are written in English, and all investment meetings are conducted in English. Applicants must therefore have excellent ability in both written and verbal English.
• Applicants will ideally have at least 1 year of experience in equity analysis. However, applicants with several years of closely related experience, or applicants with an outstanding and directly relevant educational background may be considered.
• The applicant MUST be able to interpret financial statements and have a solid understanding of financial ratios.
• The applicant must also have a good understanding of global financial and business matters.
• Although initial training will be provided, the applicant will be expected to begin contributing almost immediately. Given the independence and equality provided in the role, the applicant will need to possess a great deal of maturity to be able to operate effectively.
• Value investing is a naturally contrarian approach to investment. We expect all of our analysts to be able to think laterally and to be prepared to question accepted wisdom. LWM seeks to avoid groupthink at all costs.

Additional major European or Asian languages (particularly German, French, Korean or Japanese) would be an advantage.

We are looking for an analyst either at the beginning or in the early stages of his / her career who is looking for an opportunity to gain a tremendous amount of experience whilst based in our Beijing office. Each of our analysts is fully involved in the selection and research of companies from start to finish. We have no sector specialisation – our analysts are free to choose to research companies from any industry (and from any continent), subject only that these candidate companies fulfil the strict value criteria to which we adhere. All analysts vote in the selection meetings whereby proposed companies are examined, purchased or discarded. We run focused portfolios of only 25-35 companies so we are looking for the very best value companies available from around the world. Our value investment approach has outperformed ALL major markets over a three year period, with a lower level of volatility than the FTSE 100.
